DIVING REGULATIONS

PERMISSION TO DIVE THE MALTESE ISLANDS

Now that we are complete E.U. members, we have new diving regulations, very similar to all E.U. countries.

To dive the Maltese islands, one does not need a doctor’s medical anymore, UNLESS, after filling in the self declaration, which is available at the dive centre (click here for Medial Declaration Form) a person is found to suffer from certain illnesses or has a past medical history that might hold him from diving. In this case, he has to be rexamined by a (local specialised in diving) doctor. One can either bring his own medical, or if not already available, our doctor will call at the dive centre every morning. A local medical will cost around 15 Euro.

For diving unaccompanied by an instructor, divers must be CMAS ** or PADI Advanced, Equivalent or above those certifications.

Divers with lower qualifications, can only dive if accompanied by an instructor.

If there is an instructor in the group, and they all want to dive on their own, I can arrange for that instructor to get him the necessary permit to take care of the less qualified divers or students as the case may be for the duration of their holiday. Please see "TEMPORARY INSTRUCTOR'S LICENCE" below.

As for the age limit, where one had to be over 14 years to dive, NOW THAT IS OVER TOO!

Children can dive according to the age limit allowed by the specific Training Institution, that is the age limit allowed by BSAC, PADI, SSI, etc.

Still, parents consent is still requested.

These are the main changes in the diving regulations, and so things are more easy now.

TEMPORARY INSTRUCTOR'S LICENCE

We will be more than glad to help any Diving Instructor/Instructress who, while on their holiday, they wish to do their own courses or lead dives for unqualified divers in their group.

The local law allows us to issue a Local Temporary Instructor's Licence to such persons who can  legally act as instructors only during their holiday.

Interested instructors are requested to provide the following documents for us to be able to issue this temporary licence:

1.    Copy of Instructor’s Certificate

2.    Up to date Teaching Status Certificate

3.    Up to date Medical Certificate

4.    Diving Insurance Certificate showing that he or she is covered to teach diving courses.

Failing to provide  ALL or ANY of these certificates, the instructor will not be eligible to act as such.

This is in conformity with the local law and irrespective of any Diving Federation’s Regulations or Customs.

So feel free to ask for more information if required and we will be more than glad to help.
