NITROX FACILITIES

Relax … Yes Frankie's Gozo Dive Center is now a Nitrox Center. Frankie's has been selected to be the TDI Center for Gozo and will be able to offer TDI's full range of technical diving Courses, and, in keeping with our other PADI courses we can now offer PADI's Enriched Air Specialty (EANx).

Frankie's will offer PADI Enriched Air Specialty and TDI'S Nitrox Diver and Advanced Nitrox Diver on request and other Technical courses at set times in the year (keep an eye on our website for more information).

It was the high standards of quality and service that won Frankie's Gozo Diving Center the opportunity to become the only TDI Center on Gozo. Our air quality and level of servicing expertise combined with, knowledgeable and experienced instructors made Frankie's the perfect choice.

Both the PADI Enriched Air and TDI Nitrox Diver are 2 day courses with one day of academics and two Nitrox dives and qualifies you to use mixes from 22% to 40% oxygen. The TDI Advanced Nitrox Course is a three day course including 4 dives and qualifies you to use mixes from 22% to 100% oxygen.

What is Nitrox?

Nitrox is any mixture of Nitrogen and Oxygen, in recreational diving, Nitrox refers to an increased percentage of Oxygen and is commonly called Enriched Air Nitrox (EANx). Increasing the oxygen content (percentage), in turn, reduces the amount of nitrogen (inert gas) used during the dive. This reduces the potential for decompression sickness. Nitrox also has other benefits, which include longer no decompression times, reduced surface intervals and reduced post dive fatigue.
Nitrox is often regarded as a deep diving gas by divers who are not familiar with Nitrox. "I don't need nitrox coz I don't dive that deep" is a usual mistaken comment.
You don't need to be a physics professor to learn to dive with Nitrox as the academics can easily be completed in one day, including dive table revision. Remember ….if you knew the benefits of Nitrox, you'd be diving with it too!

Course Breakdown:
A day in the dive center's lecture room will include learning the background and advantages of diving with Nitrox, followed by various lectures on Safety, Dive Planning and Nitrox tables as well as an exam. The Nitrox Diver schedule is designed to develop advanced diving skills appropriate to diving in the 40-metre Recreational Limit.

The course, which will run over one day will look at and discuss oxygen physiology and toxicity, the symptoms and effects of nitrogen on the human physiology and deep diving procedures for depth to 40 metres. It will also cover Nitrox and oxygen equipment compatibility for Nitrox mixtures containing up to 40% oxygen.

TDI Advanced Nitrox Diver

Prerequisites: Minimum age 15, Minimum Certification TDI Nitrox Diver (or equivalent)

Course Breakdown:
One day in the dive center's lecture room will include physics, physiology, formula work, equipment considerations, dive tables and dive computers. Lectures on dive planning, mixing procedures and decompression will also be given. Advanced Nitrox diver will qualify you to plan and execute dives with mixes from EAN 21% to 100% O2.
